Dwelling too much on the past or focusing too much on the future can paralyze YOU in the PRESENT.
We are all guilty of it. So many of us live in the present trapped by our past. Others live joyless in the present because they are too focused on the future. Sound familiar? It does to me. I often miss out on what the Lord has for me today because I am too focused on where I want to be in the next day, weeks, months, or years to come.
The truth is, you are also guilty of this. There may be something in your past, a failure, a weakness, a sin, an addiction, something you may have said or failed to say, that keeps you from being and experiencing what God has for you today.
Or maybe you live for the weekend, live for the next paycheck, the next vacation, home, vehicle, or whatever it may be for you, that keeps you missing out on the blessing God has for you today!
We should reflect on the past to learn from our shortcomings and to be thankful of the Lords faithfulness. We should also have vision for our lives, set goals for our futures, and have things we look forward to. But, what about today?
The Lord has a purpose and a plan for you today! He has opportunities in place for you to be the light of the world. He has circumstances set for you to become more like Christ. He has placed value on today and on you! The Lord has a vision for today and he wants you to be part of it.
What about today?
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
Do not be so consumed with your past that you fail to move forward today. And do not be so consumed with where your headed, where you wish to be, or what you wish to have that you fail to enjoy the present. Make the most of today.
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing;…” Isaiah 43:18-19
The Lord is doing a new thing today. In your life. In the lives around you. In the world around you. Dive into what the Lord has in store for today.
