“Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you…And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.‘ For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, that you may fear the LORD your God forever. Joshua 3:5 & 4:21-24
There are moments in life where circumstances stare us in the face and cause us to cripple in fear. These times can cause us to cave in and want to quit. I call these situations, life’s facts.
The fact is you may be stuck in overwhelming debt. Your marriage may be in bad shape. The fact is you may be tired, overweight, and addicted to food. The fact is your greatest fear may be powering over you more than Gods power flowing through you. The fact is you may not feel good about yourself. The fact is you may have an addiction that you cannot seem to conquer. The fact is you may be about to lose or have lost your job and are without income. The fact is you may not have the greatest relationship with your family. You may not have been the greatest parent, friend, brother, sister, etc.
Get the picture yet? Life’s facts can be very daunting.
They were overwhelming and impossible for the Israelite’s as well. Israel needed to cross the Jordan. How were they going to do it? The fact is this was an impossible task. But the truth was and still is that God was about to do wonders among them. We see this all through out scripture. Where God’s people are faced with staggering life facts, God is eager to do the impossible.
The fact is the Jordan was full, flowing, and too deep to cross. The truth is God dried up the waters for his people to get across.
The fact is Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego should have been burned to death in the fiery furnace. The truth is God delivered them.
The fact is nobody is able to walk on water. The truth is Jesus did and so did Peter for a moment.
The fact is at death we are supposed to be done. The truth is Jesus died and conquered death through his resurrection and made eternal life available to all who believe in him.
The fact is the world appears to be going to down hill. The truth is God has a beautiful plan that we can barely wrap our minds around.
So what about you? Will you let life’s facts dominate you or will you trust God’s truth?
The fact is you may be in debt. The truth is when you steward your finances for God’s glory he is more than able to deliver you from debt.
The fact is you may not like yourself. God’s truth is that you were fearfully and wonderfully made. There is no one else just like you.
The fact is you may be addicted. The truth is God’s power is greater than that your addiction.
The fact is you may have made some jacked up decisions in your past. The truth is you are totally forgiven and set free through the blood of Jesus Christ.
I could go on and on. The point is, if we are going to live the lives’ God wants for us, then we have to believe God’s truth instead of life’s facts. The fact is life is tough. The truth is our God is the creator and is greater!
Consecrate yourself and the Lord will do wonders among you!
