Uncommon: You’re Gonna Have Haters

Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite.  “Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” And the LORD heard this.3 (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)  – Numbers 12:1-3

Moses had a lot going for him.  He had a face-to-face relationship with God, clarity, vision, faith, and to top it all off, scripture says he was the most humble man on the face of the earth.  He was one of if not the greatest leader of all time.  But with all the influence Moses had, it also came with much responsibility.  He also had some haters.

Miriam and Aaron were jealous of Moses.  They were insecure.  They wanted what we had.  But instead of looking at Moses’s life map and learning from Moses, they hated on Moses.  They talked bad about his wife.  They questioned his relationship with God.

When you live an uncommon life, strive for an uncommon relationship with God, and believe God for uncommon things to happen in your life for his honor and glory, The Haters Will Show Their Ugly Hater Faces.   You will not experience God’s purpose in your life with out having some Haters hate on you.

It’s in these moments you have to preach to yourself and ask the same question Paul asked…

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.  – Galatians 1:10

As we see from Miriam and Aaron, haters will not only talk bad about you, but they will also attack those around you.  Now, haters are not always going to talk bad about you or the people close to you.  They may speak doubt over your dreams.  They may criticize you.  They may say you don’t have what it takes.  They may say you’re out of your mind.  But all of this is ok!  Because at the end of this vapor called life they will not be the ones handing out eternal rewards.  God will have the final say so and will give out the last prize.

Derek and I are currently leading a small group through Steven Futick’s book Sun Stand Still. This is a book that will make you want to charge hell with a squirt gun.  People in our group are beginning to think about and discover God’s vision for their lives.  People are beginning to catch the courage to throw up long shot prayers and believe God to answer them.   But here is the problem…if these people stay on fire and continue to reach for God’s vision, soon, some one around them is going to hate on them.

There is no way around it. If your going to really run the opposite way from the world and by that I mean run towards God and his will, You’re Gonna Have Haters!

But if you don’t have any haters, you’re probably not doing something right.

So, shake dem haters off and live in a way that will allow you to hear the words “Job well done, good and faithful servant” when you cross over into eternity and meet Jesus Christ face-to-face.
