“Why then were you not afraid
to speak against my servant Moses?”
The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them.
When the cloud lifted from above the tent, Miriam’s skin was leprous—it became as white as snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had a defiling skin disease,” – Numbers 12:8-10
As this series of posts “Uncommon” closes out today, I am speaking at a youth camp in Smithville Arkansas. Enjoy the last post of this series and keep me in your prayers as I prepare to speak tonight, Wednesday night, and Thursday morning.
We learn a lot from Numbers 12:1-10. We see the results of the uncommon humility that Moses lived out. It’s these results that give us a picture of what you and I can expect when we choose to humbly walk and live for the Lord’s glory and honor.
There is a potential for a deeper relationship with God. This deepened relationship helps us receive clarity from the Holy Spirit. As we receive clarity the Holy Spirit is there to give us the power to put our faith into action. We have witnessed from this passage that when we choose to live uncommon lives it makes others around us cringe. They may become jealous, speak against you or some one close to you. They may say things like “That will never work out for you.”
So, living uncommon lives, the lives God has called you and I to live reaps much blessing and much resistance. But I think the best thing that we see from this passage, is that when we do live our lives for God and his purpose…. He’s Got Our Back.
Because Aaron and Miriam spoke against the Lord’s humble leader Moses, the Lord’s anger burned against them and Miriam ended up with leprosy. Now, I’m not saying that those who hate on you or stand against you or may be jealous of you are going to be struck with leprosy. I mean the Lord, could do that if he wanted to. But the chances are that is not going to happen to them. But what we do see is that the Lord has the back of his children. The Lord has the back of his choses ones. His leaders. Those who live uncommon for his honor.
Are you afraid to live an uncommon life for God? Afraid of the faith it may require? Afraid of what others may say? I can understand. But I also understand that the Lord has got your back! Not only does he have your back but also he has already gone before you and written the chapters that you will live out. The adversity you will face is there for the Lord to prepare you for the next uncommon part of your journey.
- You save the humble… Psalm 18:27
- He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. Psalm 25:9
- For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. Psalm 149:4
- “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.” Isaiah 66:2
- Humility comes before honor. Proverbs 15:33
There is an endless list of scripture references about how the Lord guides, teaches, protects, honors, and delights in those who live for him. The point is; He’s got your back.
So, as I close out this series of posts I challenge you to live an uncommon life for the glory of Jesus Christ and begin to watch the uncommon and impossible become reality.
